LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are different from any other light source. LED lighting now plays a significant role in Theatrical, Event, Studio, and all other lighting departments. Their primary benefits can be seen in extremely low energy consumption and relatively low heat dispersion. They consume very little power per lumen of light produced, which makes them perfect for any energy conscious customer or venue where little power is available. Additionally, LEDs generate very little heat or UV light which makes them ideal for architectural and display purposes.
LED fixtures are not like filament-based lamps or gas arc lamps, but rather semi-conductors much like transistors. The light from each individual LED is a single color determined by the LEDs composition. Colors can be combined for great versatility. Because LEDs have no moving parts, no arc gaps to erode, and no filaments to break, the life span is extensive. Many are rated for as long as 100,000 hours. LED fixtures are constantly evolving in efficiency and ability.
